October 26: Disney Divas Event
The Evil Queen at the Diva Event
After the trials and tribulations of the Pirates of the Caribbean event which was held back in May many approached the Diva event with trepidation. A light rain hovered in the area forcing a change of plans but the transition indoors went smoothly. After the appetizers in Innoventions and dinner at the Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port everyone was escorted over to the Fantasyland Theater for the evening performance. At one point in the performance the Evil Queen from Snow White came out on stage. Holding her signature mirror she began to sing, "Look and me. I would never pass for a perfect bride. Or a perfect daughter." Immediately Doobie, who had been taking photos, began to chuckle as did our friend Ashley who was seated beside him. The song seemed familiar and yet I couldn’t place it I just knew it was odd coming from her lips. I wondered if it was a Depeche Mode song as Doobie is Depeche Mode fan and I don’t really know any of their songs but then she broke into the chorus, "Who is that girl I see” from Mulan's Reflections. Many more in the audience began to laugh now me and Doobie was laughing so hard he had to stop taking pictures for a few moments.

September 4th: Mary Poppins Sing Along
The Sherman Brothers
On the evening of September 4th, hundreds of Mary Poppins’ fans gathered at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood where moviegoers were invited to sing-along with the film when the lyrics appeared along the bottom. Many could even be heard reciting dialogue along with the film. Before the film started on this inaugural evening the Sherman Brothers and others involved with Mary Poppins spoke about creating the film. The spirit of Walt Disney seemed to fill the theater as the duo sang one of his favorites, Feed the Birds. Even though we all knew we would be singing these songs later in the evening we couldn’t help but sing with the legends who had brought these beautiful melodies to us.

November and December: The Holidays
Osborne Family Lights at Walt Disney World
As with other years, Disneyland was all aglow with thousands of twinkling lights and other holiday decorations. But this year they added the stunning "Believe... in Holiday Magic." Through its music and firework presentation guests can experience the joys and magic of the holiday season. The snowfall finale always brings a tear to my eye as I watch couples cuddle up closer and give a sweet holiday kiss or see a child reaching up as far as they can stretch to touch the snowflakes.
For four days in December Doobie and I became overwhelmed with the sights, sounds and smells of a Walt Disney World holiday. Many of the pictures we took appeared on the website last month. The resorts were beautiful and I’ll never forget the way the gingerbread fragrance filled the air at the Boardwalk Inn and the Grand Floridian Resort. The amazing gingerbread artist created gazebos, carousels, and sleighs of a substance I can’t always make simple cookie cutter men from. Travelling around the resorts and theme parks I was surprised by all the holiday activities available including the “chestnuts roasting over an open fire” that were offered to guests at the Grand Floridian and cookie decorating at the Animal Kingdom. Each pavilion at Epcot had its own holiday storyteller who would share the customs of his country. At the resorts we stumbled upon carolers and storytellers. The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights at the Disney-MGM Studios was more than I anticipated. I knew there were lights but I had no idea that everything was covered in lights. There were lights on the house walls, roofs, around the lawn chairs, and the lawn mower. And yet it wasn’t terribly bright due to the use of reds, greens, and blues. If all the lights had been white we would have been forced to wear sunglasses I’m sure. =)
