The Grande Finale
Tom O'Day (Communications TO'Day) introduced the Sherman Brothers, talking about their
musical accomplishments and their support for music education and appreciation, including
Richard's support of the USC Trojan Band (of which he is an almunus). O'Day then brought
Richard Sherman onstage to play piano for the audience. Robert Sherman, Richard's brother
and partner in music, couldn't make the ceremony. Richard told the story behind how he and
his brother came up with the song "It's a Small World", and he performed it for
the audience. Everyone in that room had heard that song countless times before, but this
was like hearing it for the first time all over again.
Everyone was then treated to a Sherman Brothers medley by the
talented ShermAnnettes, consisting of Pamela Dahl, Charles Herrera, Katherine Meyering,
Wane Moore, Annette Reid, and Josh Shipley.

Richard Sherman with Marty Sklar
Richard gave a thoughtful speech about what a special man Walt Disney was, and what a
privilege it was to work with him. He pointed out that we were all there because of a
movement that Walt was the leader in creating.
