So, What Are You Going to Do About It?
Voting with your dollar says a lot. Buying the products and services you like and refusing to buy the ones you don’t like – and letting the Company know why – it a good way to influence change.

The responsibility for what a corporation does ultimately rests on the owners - the shareholders - provided corporate management isn’t doing things in secret.

The more shares that belong to people who think like you, the more likely it is that you’re going to get what you want.

Anyone can buy shares - customers, employees, or investment funds.

Investment funds tend to be the most removed. The average “small? investor just wants to see a return on their investment. Many aren’t even aware what specific businesses they are investing in, let alone what those business are doing as far as maintaining quality, producing wholesome products, or operating ethically. You may not like guns, but you could be investing in gun manufacturing. You may not like the policies of the Chinese government, but you could be helping to generate revenue for that government.

If you own shares through an investment fund, do what you can to let the managers of that fund know your opinions of what is going on at the Company.

Try to persuade more shareholders to your way of thinking. Roy and Stan have an excellent website at SaveDisney.com for getting the “alternative view? of the current state of the Company and to see all of different calls for change. Chances are, you’re not going to agree with every point of every other person who is unhappy with current corporate management, but that doesn’t mean you couldn’t agree with them that change is needed or how to bring about the best change possible.

If you’re happy with the way things are, then I hope this column has been a worthwhile exploration of why some people aren’t. If you’re not happy with the way things are, I hope this column has made you think about exactly why you aren’t. You can do something towards making a change, or you can sit around and label people evil. The choice is yours.
