Toon Talk: Parent Trap Vault Disney 2-Disc DVD
Page 3 of 4
Disney Legend: Hayley Mills Featurette: This mini A&E Biography takes the place of the other Vault Disney titles Conversations with features, a fitting tribute to everyones favorite little English girl. Includes filmed tributes by her co-stars (OHara and Barnes from Parent Trap, Dean Jones from That Darn Cat, Nancy Olson and Kevin Corcoran from Pollyanna), vintage home movies and family photographs of Hayley as a young child, and extensive coverage of Pollyanna and Parent Trap, with mentions of her later films, both Disney (In Search of the Castaways, Summer Magic, The Moon-Spinners) and non-Disney (the movie adaptation of her mothers book, Whistle Down the Wind). Hayley reveals that her role in her first film, Tiger Bay, was originally written for a boy and that life in the other studios was very different from that at Disney. Most memorable, though, is a beautiful anecdote about Walts parting gift to Hayley.
Seeing Double Featurette: Focuses on the special effects used in The Parent Trap, highlighting the ingenuity and inventiveness of Disney Legend Ub Iwerks.
The Title Makers: Excerpt from the 1961 black and white Disneyland episode showcasing how T. Hee, Xavier Atencio and Bill Justice dreamed up the clever stop motion animated opening titles for The Parent Trap. Also seen are Annette Funicello and Tommy Sands (in their Babes in Toyland costumes) recording the title song, with a surprise appearance by a certain movie wizard.
Kimball and Swift: The Disney Years Featurette: Two old friends, Disney Legend Ward Kimball and David Swift, recount their early days at Disney Animation. They both started in the In-Between department, dubbed the Bull Pen, and worked together on Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio (rare live action reference footage is shown), the crows in Dumbo and Bacchus in Fantasia, as well as the title character in The Reluctant Dragon (who had to be redone because the infamous Hays Office deemed the dragons visible belly-button inappropriate). Swift recalls his first solo animation, in The Nifty Nineties short, appropriately included on the Pollyanna DVD set. Oddly jerky photography aside, this is a rare chance to see two Disney greats reminisce about the good ol days. Dedicated to Swift, who passed away late last year soon after this interview was filmed.
Audio Archives: Eleven Radio Spots, five from the original release, six from the 1968 re-release; two Sound Studios, where you can toggle between dialogue only/effects only/music only/final composite for The Girlfriend (Maggies arrival at Mitchs ranch) and Twins Revenge (Susan and Sharon submarine Vickie in her tent while she sleeps) scenes; and two Songs, with accompanying slide shows, For Now For Always and The Parent Trap (both the full versions not heard in the film, but released as singles).
Disney Studio Album - 1961: In theaters that year: The Absent-Minded Professor, Babes in Toyland, 101 Dalmatians and The Parent Trap. On television: Westward Ho the Wagons and the first appearance of Ludwig Von Drake. At Disneyland: Flying Saucers in Tomorrowland, the monorail expands, and Tinker Bells live debut in Fantasy in the Sky. In production: The Sword in the Stone, erroneously referred to here as The Sword AND the Stone.
