lot #31. Picture Me at Disneyland - Six Cels
Another set of original production cels from the "Picture Me at Disneyland" toddle book, which was published in 1996. Often an ODC auction will get into a merchandise rut - cel art seemed to be the sticking point in the 2001 version. Not that it isnt wonderful and collectable, ConventionEars later remarked that there was a lack of variety available and prices reflected this.

lot #32 Sorcerer Mickey
Another limited-edition 2000 Official Disneyana Convention piece created by Disney artist Don "Ducky" Williams features Mickey sleeping on the job in his staring role of the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Dons work is very distinctive and highly collectable and his fan base includes some of the most loyal Mickey collectors in the Disneyana Marketplace.

lot #33 Lilliput Lane 2000 Official Disneyana Convention Sculpture
Its the process as much as the product as this unique lot features the life of a sculpture - from one stage to the finished product. The "it's a small world" 2000 Official Disneyana Convention progression piece is a wonderful example of the attention to detail produced by the Disneyana merchandise division and its participating vendors.

Low Estimate: | $900 |
High Estimate: | $1,200 |

Sold for: | $5,500.00 |
lot #34 Walt Disney's Autopia Tires
When I saw this lot I laughed and thought "what a perfect collectable" and then I knew that somewhere Bob Gurr was laughing. This has to be one of the most Disneyland-centric items for auction and as I found after the convention, it was purchased as a display for a Goodyear dealership - appropriate and fun.
Size: | 18" D Unframed Each |
Artist: | Walt Disney Parks & Resorts - The Disneyland Resort |
Low Estimate: | $1,000 |
High Estimate: | $2,000 |
Medium: | Mixed Media |
Sold for: | $1,200.00 |
lot #35 Jungle Book Art - Chris Schnabel
Art is art after all and this wonderful scene of Baloo and Mowgli swimming together from "The Jungle Book" was originally created for the Disney Catalog. For an art piece to be collectable many factors come into play - function of the art is among them - but what character is featured and who created the art is more important than why it was created in the first place..
Size: | 16-1/2"H x 22-1/2" W |
Artist: | Chris Schnabel |
Low Estimate: | $3,000 |
High Estimate: | $4,000 |
Medium: | Water Color |
Sold for: | $3,750.00 |
lot #36 "A Tribute to Walt Disney" - Elisabete Gomes Vase
Elizabete Gomes created a one of a kind, hand made and hand painted ceramic vase exclusively for the 2001 Official Disneyana Convention. Saying "From a little mouse an era of unforgettable movies was born. From the imagination of one man fairy tale stories were transformed into exquisite works of art that will live on in the hearts of generations to come. That man was Walt Disney." This artist knows her audience very well.
Size: | 21-1/2"H x 13"W |
Artist: | Elisabete Gomes |
Low Estimate: | $1,000 |
High Estimate: | $2,000 |
Medium: | Clay |
Sold for: | $5,500.00 |
lot #37 Disney Storybook Art Cel from 1937
Another classic production cel from 1937, this one is considerably better shape and featuring Donald and Pluto. Its difficult to tell if an abundance of similar items caused the prices to fluctuate from lot to lot - or if the items are sufficiently rare as to find their audience and establish their worth. Thats the pitfall of auctioning rarities.
Size: | 13"H x 9"W |
Artist: | Walt Disney Publishing |
Low Estimate: | $3,000 |
High Estimate: | $4,000 |
Medium: | Cel Vinyl |
Sold for: | $4,000.00 |
lot #38 Matterhorn Experience
This was a surprise as it wasnt a "thing" being auctioned but an "Experience" - the winner - along with Disneylands chief photographer - got to tour the inside of the mountain, go backstage and meet the Abominable Snowman - not a solid, tangible item, but a memory - and a photo album. This auction was won by a walk-in, a woman who paid $25 for a ticket and did not attend the convention. There is a certain energy that can be generated when two people both "want" the same thing, and watching the bidding for this item was an amazing ride. The winner went on her pre-opening adventure on the morning of September 8th.
Id imagine that the price that this lot garnered will lead to other high-$ "experience tours" and is something that marketing will be working on and will soon show-up on e-Bay.

lot #39 Frontierland Window Display
This was another piece of Disneyland that was offered for auction. I remember this item being placed near the front gate and inside the Frontierland gateway featuring the parks 40th Anniversary "40 years of Adventure" theme. It will make a very cool curio cabinet
Size: | 117"L x 14"H x 62"W |

Low Estimate: | $3,000 |
High Estimate: | $5,000 |

lot #40 Mickey Through the Years
Another of the DDG artists making a name for himself - and finding a loyal fan base is Mark Seppala. Known primarily as a pin artist - he designed 12 pins in the WDW 2000 Pin of the Month series - Mark is also something of a Mickey specialist. This piece features Mickey through the years as inspired by the themes of the first five Disneyana Conventions.
