The Studios
The Studios is to open a full 4 weeks earlier than scheduled on March 16 2002. This will ensure that the park’s crucial revenue stream will be in operation a full one month extra than anticipated. With the WDSP being on target and now slightly under budget at approximately $400 million and guests in the U.K. and Germany already making significant more bookings than in 2001, this year promises to herald the first in the new era of the DLRP.

The first cast members and their immediate family saw the new second gate on Friday. Reports have been largely encouraging for the smallest and cheapest Disney theme park ever but the future looks decidedly rosy for this baby brother to the king of Magic Kingdoms, Disneyland Paris park. Future investment will be tied directly to the initial success, but plans are already apace for the second phase of development with some special surprises in store in the next month.

About the numbers: As a publicly traded company, EuroDisney S.C.A., the parent company of DLRP, is always actively seeking new shareholders and as the Resort is the only revenue-creating entity, EuroDisney has no choice but to publish figures such as attendance levels in order to satisfy stock market requirements and potential & existing shareholders. The Walt Disney Company only holds 39.1% of EuroDisney, while the rest is available on various markets around the world. The Walt Disney Company is a totally different entity and has no need to be specific about attendance levels and revenue at the U.S. parks as it can be lumped together with the management fees and royalties due from both the Oriental Land Company and EuroDisney S.C.A.

On Saturday, the first guests, including myself, will see the WDSP for the first time. Watch out for my first report on the park on Laughingplace beginning the week of February 25. I promise there will be no more “dry” figures for you to absorb!
