“Disneyland on the Air�? would prove to be a typical entry in the series. Mickey, attempting to produce a lavish television special in Disneyland, runs afoul of Donald Duck who is convinced he will be left out.

Of special interest is the first illustration. It shows an eager crowd hurrying into Disneyland’s Opera House for a live TV broadcast. Walt Disney had proposed a TV studio for Disneyland in nearly every early plan for the park. Indeed, the building housing the Opera House was built like a Hollywood sound stage. “Disneyland on the Air�? was apparently produced with the assumption that this would actually happen.
The very next title in the Disney series was “Donald Duck in Disneyland�? (1954).

This title was so popular that it was kept in print for many years. In 1960, the cover and story were updated to reflect the addition of the Matterhorn, Monorail, and Submarines to Disneyland.

The plot of this title found Donald rushing madly all over Disneyland, trying to find his nephews. As Donald keeps just missing the mischievous trio, the reader is treated to a fairly complete travelogue of Walt’s magic kingdom.
