imagination shelving.jpg (16755 bytes)Off to the right are shelving systems full of equipment used in stimulating the imagination. To begin the adventure guests board bright red vehicles and prepare for a Journey into their Imagination. First stop, the Imagination Scanner. The Institute reveals the results of our scan, images of lit Vacancy signs, large question marks and empty gas gauges appear. After Mr. Channing's reassurance that our inactive imagination is perfect for the experiments we were on to our next stop, an exercise in sound. We entered a room of total silence and complete darkness. Slowly I picked up the sounds of cricket chirping, distant city noises an approaching train which came closer and closer until it seemed as though the train was passing inches from my head. Our journey continues and we pass a large bank of computers which I believe created the amazing sounds we had just heard.

The next scene that comes into view is a large magnifying lens in front of an open door. "Is the lens actually magnifying this image or is it your imagination", Mr. Channing asks in the Illusion lab where,  "things are not always what they seem." I must admit that things are not always what they seem in this room. A fish swimming peacefully in a large aquarium suddenly swims outside the tank and a cage that initially was empty suddenly becomes the home to a beautiful butterfly. It is simply astounding.

Our next stop on the Journey is an exercise in sounds. Our vehicles pass shelving with several televisions displaying vibrant kaleidoscopes of color. We are now in between two large collections of TV screens whose colors change with the various sounds that fill the room. They are bright green as sounds of an active rainforest fill the room and turn to bright red with the sound of an explosion.

Upon Entering the next room, an image of Figment, made by connecting a display of stars, appears. As we continue to travel, we are slowly surrounded by a vast starfield. Periodically, various stars are connected together to form images such as a duck, an umbrella, and a dragon. After exiting the Connections room, I can see a large switch labeled "anti-gravity" in the on position. A whistling draws my attention to...the ceiling. Yes, this room is upside down. Tables and chairs appear on the ceiling, along with full plates of food, a kitchen stove with a whistling tea kettle and even a fire which burns down. After leaving this room we pause to be scanned once again. Pushing the scanner to the limit a large explosion occurs and suddenly we are surrounded by all sorts of images. Our journey begins again and in the midst of all this activity, Figment can be seen and he shares his excitement over our minds creation. We enter a starfield once again and slowly come to stop. The lights illuminate the room and we exit into the Imageworks Deparment of the Institute.
