The skies cleared up and time quickly progressed to 11:30PM. By then the outdoor areas of the park were swelling to their limits with guests. Even the rocks at the entrance to Tomorrowland were crowded with people. At about 11:40PM, people realized that wherever they were in the park was where they would be spending the time until after midnight and a generaly party atmosphere pervailed.

At 11:45PM everyone cracked their Magical Wishing Wands, then to the tune of "When You Wish Upon A Star," made their wishes for the new year. Quick as a wink the dance music came back on and the crowd swayed like a sea of people until countdown time.

Then a minute before midnight Sorcerer Mickey mounted the castle walls. With seconds to go, and the crowd counting down, the great mouse shot a stream of fire up to the top of the Matterhorn where fireworks kicked off the new year and the evening's firework show.

When the smoke finally cleared a Mickey Year 2000 sign was revealed on the top of the Matterhorn.
