The festivities at Disneyland extends from the streets to the sky in a new evening spectacle designed especially for the Disneyland's 45th year. Entitled "Believe...There's Magic in the Stars," the nighttime fireworks spectacular combines an original script and musical score with fireworks and other effects.

As the spectacle began, the lights along Main Street were darkened. Lights twinkled in the trees of the Hub and the statue of Mickey and Walt were illuminated brightly. Throughout the Park the voice of Walt Disney echoed "Here's the world of imagination, hopes and dreams.....dedicated to the young and the young in heart—to those who believe that when you wish upon a star dreams do come true." A female narrator proclaimed, "Today, 45 years later, we still believe in that magic."  She was followed by a young boy's voice who talks about the stars and the images you can create from them. "It's like watching my dreams appear high up in the sky, " he says, "maybe if I really believe hard enough my dreams will come true." The female narrator is heard again, "Disneyland is about to take you on a magical journey so wish upon stars. You will become part of a little boy's wish as he looks to the stars for the magic of believing so close your eyes make a wish and believe there's magic in the stars."

The original score that accompanies the fireworks shown below were recorded by an 80 piece orchestra and includes tunes from Pinocchio, Cinderella, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Tarzan and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The number and variety of pyrotechnics involved enables "Believe...There's Magic in the Stars" to virtually paint pictures in the sky.

The exciting tune Topsy-Turvy is
accentuated by multi-colored eruptions.

Disneyland's "Believe...there's Magic in the Stars" shoots off three times more shells than any previous Disneyland display. The fireworks are shot from 13 separate locations and the shells are computer programmed by a digitally controlled system that can fire each shell within 1/30th of a second. All aspects of the fireworks performance run on fully automated control system utilizing six computers. The new show lasts approximately 10 minutes.
