The Hollywood Pictures Backlot District is the area of DCA most like an existing Disney theme park. It has a similar theme and some similar attractions to the Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World. Like Disney-MGM Studios, facades, city-like buildings and billboards are everywhere in Hollywood representing a studio backlot.

The Hollywood Pictures Backlot district is home to several attractions, many of them housed in the Animation building. However, unlike the Art of Animation attraction at Walt Disney World, guests are not required to experience the different sections in a continuous tour. Guests have the option to experience them in whatever order they please. The Disney Animation related attractions are:
- The Courtyard Gallery: The central hub of the building from which the other areas can be visited.
- Drawn to Animation: A film and live show that explains how animated characters come to life.
- Animation Screening Room: Guests view artwork from upcoming films and watch the Back to Neverland film currently, featured at Disney-MGM Studios, starring Robin Williams and Walter Cronkite. Back to Neverland teaches guests the process of animation.
- Art of Animation: This section will showcase Disney animation with rotating exhibits featuring Disney artists, films or themes.
- Sorcerer's Workshop: This area is further subdivided into
three interactive experiences that teach the history and process of animation. The three
areas are:
- Magic Mirror Realm: Experience the early technology of animation.
- The Beast's Library: Discover your own personality and which Disney character you're most like.
- Ursula's Grotto: Guests have the opportunity to voice Disney characters.
