Toon Talk - From the Other Side: Curious George

So where does this leave our George? With his playful nature and winning smile (and a contagious chatter provided by Disney voice fave Frank Welker, who also voiced Abu in Aladdin) and when he is left alone to do his thing (far from Will Farrell), he is all one could hope for in a movie star. Too bad the movie he is starring in is this one.
Toon Talk Rating: C-
In this ‘Toon Talk’ feature, I will briefly highlight a recommended film or DVD, outside of the Disney universe, of similar interest to the main subject. Pint-sized Primate Playmate Ronald Reagan’s film career can be summed up with two names: The Gipper and Bonzo. The latter was his chimpanzee co-star in Bedtime for Bonzo (1951, Universal), an unsung charmer along the lines of such similar Disney fare as, well, just about anything starring Dean Jones. The future president plays straight man to the ape’s antics while developing a romance with Bonzo’s “mama?, the delightful Diana Lynn. Also stars Walter Slezak, Lucille Barkley and Herbert Heyes. Directed by Frederick De Cordova. DVD available from MCA/Universal Home Video. |
Coming Soon in Toon Talk:
- Paul Walker and Jason Biggs co-star in the Arctic adventure, based on a true story, Eight Below (Disney, February 17).
- “This is the night, it’s a beautiful night …? for the new Platinum Edition of the perennial favorite Lady and the Tramp (Disney DVD, February 28).
- Tim Allen returns in a new take on The Shaggy Dog story (Disney, March 10).
