Toon Talk: The Fox and the Hound 2
Further capitalizing on the High School Musical phenomenon, Lucas Grabeel (who played snooty Ryan in the insanely popular Disney Channel movie) sings the end credit “friendship? song, “You Know I Will?, seen here in music video form. Step “backstage? for “The Making of the Music?, which includes interviews with the songs’ Nashville-based composers (Gordon Kennedy, Marcus Hummon and Will Robinson) and in-front-of-the-mike talent (superstar Trisha Yearwood, American Idol’s singing marine Josh Gracin, up-and-coming quartet Little Big Town and, of course, Reba), as well as score composer Joel McNeely and “blue collar? comic Jeff Foxworthy, who voices a minor character in the movie.
The music angle even extends to the games section with “Mutt Mix Master? …, which should be avoided by anyone except those who find dogs barking “Jingle Bells? entertaining.
Toon Talk Rating: D+
In this ‘Toon Talk’ feature, I will briefly highlight a recommended film or DVD, outside of the Disney universe, of similar interest to the main subject. Dog Days of December As far as dog movies go, it is best to start at the beginning: Lassie Come Home (1943, MGM). Before all the sequels and televisions series, Lassie starred in the classic heart-warmer with two child actors that would go on to even greater fame as adults, Roddy McDowell and Elizabeth Taylor. Tears are guaranteed in the emotional climax when Lassie does indeed come home. The film also stars Dennis Crisp, Elsa Lanchester and J. Pat O’Malley. Directed by Fred M. Wilcox, the DVD is available from Warner Home Video. |
Coming Soon:
- The next wave of “Walt Disney Treasures? is upon us with more classic cartoons (The Complete Pluto: Volume 2 and More Silly Symphonies) and television favorites (Your Host, Walt Disney and The Hardy Boys) (December 19).
- Toon in for the annual year-end round up of the Toon Talk Top 10 - 2006.
- What if the shoe didn’t fit? Find out in Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (February 6).
