#8 - HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL
Disney Channel Original Movie/Disney DVD
Whereas Pirates dominated the big screen, HSM dominated seemingly all other media: a highly-rated run on the Disney Channel, best-selling DVDs and CD soundtracks (the guilty pleasure of the year, Grammy nomination or not), even legitimate stage productions and a nationwide tour. Up next? Why the inevitable sequel, of course

#9 - BROTHER BEAR 2
Disney DVD
Following in the footsteps (hoof prints?) of Bambi II, another video sequel did that film one better: it is actually better then the original. Featuring a stirring song score by Melissa Etheridge, the sequels storyline and fine animation shine.

#10 - PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN:
DEAD MANS CHEST
Walt Disney Productions/Disney DVD
A rip-snorting swashbuckler that took summer cinemas by storm. Johnny Depp and company return for more thrills, laughs and a few surprises. Thank goodness we only have to wait until next summer for the climactic final chapter.
Honorable Mention:
THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL
Five minutes of pure magic. A casualty of the studio politics that halted production of the third Fantasia feature, this beautifully realized adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen classic finally saw the light this year as a bonus short on the Little Mermaid DVD.
Special Thanks
to all the artists and filmmakers who have contributed to Disney films and video
this year, with special mentions to
James Algar, Roger Allers, Kuno Becker, Danny Cannon, Daveigh Chase, Ron
Clements, Monique Coleman, Tim Considine, Andreas Deja, Patrick Dempsey, Johnny
