The Exhibit The Fairest One of All
Disney touts this as a never-before-seen collection of more than 100 pieces of
priceless animation treasures used in the creation of the film. It was put
together by Lella Smith, and features storyboards; original concept art;
inspirational sketches for layouts, characters, and locations; layouts;
backgrounds; cells; and story gags. The artists featured include Ferdinand
Horvath, Joe Grant, Eric Larson, Art Babbitt, Maurice Noble, Ken O'Connor, and
Milt Kahl.
I overheard one of the hosts explaining that the cells were reproductions based on the actual work used in the film that the original cells were too delicate to display. Plenty of actual drawings and illustrations were on display, though, as well as animation flip charts that guests can try.
The overhead screens in the Animation Building were featuring Snow White artwork.
I was happily surprised to see a piece from a childhood neighbor of mine Gordon Legg. It is a concept for a storybook page. It was special to have this fellow living a few houses down, and interacting with him, given how large the early Disney animated features loomed in in my childhood.
