Toon Talk: Classic Caballero Collection

In addition to the Fast Play feature, the new disc comes with two bonus Donald Duck shorts: Don Donald -- the first appearance of Daisy Duck -- and Contrary Condor (oddly, Clown of the Jungle, which featured the Aracuan Bird, was not selected as well). Additionally, in the Backstage Disney section, a (very) brief excerpt from the famous CBC interview with Walt serves as a good intro to the double feature, while the two-reel South of the Border With Disney featurette is a vintage look back at the original exhibition sans animated interludes. A lot of the same info -- and gags -- from Saludos is repeated here, but you do get a glimpse of what may have been influences of such future Disney projects as Its a Small World, the Mexican pavilion at Epcot and the animated feature The Emperors New Groove.

Considering that the Walt Disney Treasures line is apparently running short on material (two discs for Destino, a seven minute short?), I am surprised that they havent thought of revisiting (and restoring) the package features like these two, Make Mine Music and Melody Time. Surely, theres enough material to pack one or even two volumes, plus they could include the original, unedited versions. Now that would be cause for a fiesta.

Toon Talk Rating: B-
