So today's presentations were for ABC News, ABC Family, Samantha Who, Men in Trees, Private Practice, and Big Shots. ABC News is trying something new with I-Caught, were they try and report on the stories behind the viral videos that spread across the web. It is just another example of ABC News trying to be on the cutting edge of technology. The show premieres in a week and is only scheduled for a summer run so it will be interesting to see if it catches on.
Speaking of catching on, ABC Family finally seems to be getting somewhere with Kyle XY and Greek. These two shows are actually getting some attention, which is something ABC Family could use. It will be interesting to see if they can continue the trend.
Samantha Who is a new ABC comedy, which probably means it ia not funny. But just hearing about ABC comedies makes me miss the only funny show ABC has aired in the last 5 years, Knights of Prosperity. I am looking forward to watching the last episodes as they get burned off these next few weeks. Check it out. It is funny.
Men in Trees is returning for a second season. I could not sit through and entire episode, though it has been doing well in the ratings. I have a feeling I am not the target audience. Private Practice is a spin-off of Grey's Anatomy, ABC's biggest hit. The special episode of Grey's that served as a pilot for this new show was not well recieved. Hopefully, Grey's fans will still give it a shot because it is anchoring a night of three new shows on Wednesday. It is a risky move, but hopefully these shows will catch on.
Big Shots is described as Sex in the City with men. I wonder what Disney Channel will be airing in this time slot, cause I got a feeling this show aint for me.
Anyway this closes another edition of the TCA press tour. Now all eyes move down to San Diego for Comic-con. Disney has a larger pressence this year, so hopefully some news will come out of it.
Quick Takes:
Parks and Resorts: Downtown Disney California will be hosting the premiere of High School Musical 2. I hope the cast is ready. I know the Disneyland Resort has hosted all three premieres of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, but High School Musical fans might be a little bit more…..enthusiastic….. Good Luck!
Studio Entertainment: Soeaking of Pirates, Disney will be releasing Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on DVD and Blu-ray on December 4th. The more I think about it, the more I realize I didn't like the film. I must be missing something, but it is my least favorite Disney film of all time.
Disney Consumer Products: Hannah Montana: Music Jam was awarded "Best Music Game," and "Best Game That Will Threaten Masculinity if Caught Playing" by IGN for the Nintendo DS category. I told you Disney was going to work on making their games better. I love the following quote from IGN: "Our reputation may be on the line, but we say it with pride; Hannah Montana is the real deal on DS. Let the hate mail begin, we don't care. Credit where credit is due,".
