As you have probably noticed, I am not one to bash The Walt Disney Company. While I might poke fun, I usually agree with their decisions. But when I got home from Epcot's 25th celebration, I got very upset. I was doing my usual search for Disney news and information, and the first thing that popped up was not Epcot's 25th, but how Disney "announced" the extension of The Year of a Million Dreams on Good Morning America. Could they have not waited one day? Did they need to steal Epcot's spotlight?
I am not one of those folks that was clamoring for a huge Epcot celebration. I was fine with a small in-park ceremony. But they shouldn't have to compete for attention. It's just not right. The President of the United States of America does not announce a new health care program on Veteran's Day. That day is reserved for veterans, and October 1st should have been reserved for Epcot.
I would have even been ok with a compromise. Perhaps they could have announced their previously announced extension at Epcot. Maybe rush construstion of the Spaceship Earth hot air balloon and have it fly over Epcot to showcase one of the dreams that is in their dream catalog.
Do not get me wrong, I really like "Where Dreams Come True" and I thought The Year of a Million Dreams was a nice way to kick off the global marketing concept. And while I find it odd that it is being extended, I can deal with that. What I cannot deal with is them not waiting, just one day.
