Living the Disney Life: Daylight Savings Party and More (Oct 31 – Nov 7)
I can't believe I haven't been to Animal Kingdom in well over a month! I last went before I left for vacation in late September. Hopefully I'll get there next week. In fact, with Christmas decor already starting to go up, the whirlwind that is the holidays is about to begin as we start the process of accumulating hundreds of holiday pictures (and more than a few videos) for LP Lotion. Should be fun….
In the past week since my last Living the Disney Life the biggest event has been our Daylight Savings Party…
On Saturday night we had our semi-annual clock changing party. You know – the one where you stay up until 1:59 a.m. and watch the clock on your cable box change to either 1:00 a.m. or 3:00 a.m. depending upon the season. Then you go to all the channels with automatic clocks and see which have the correct times in the various time zones. I'm sure you do something similar in your house. Anyway, 2:00 a.m. can take a long time to arrive so we usually play games leading up to it. This year it was Disney Scene it Second Edition. I'd recommend it for most Disney fans. The questions are not as easy as you might think, not even for hardcore fans. And the ways it's designed it can be played adults against kids without a problem. It also has a party mode where it just shows scene after scene with questions – great fun for Disney geeks like us.
I also managed to make it to the resort a few times. Here are some things I've noticed.
Made it to the Magic Kingdom last Sunday and it was much more crowded than I expected. I wanted to get some pictures of the Swiss Family Treehouse so I braved my way up it without giving it a second thought. After about the second set of stairs I was reminded of what I stay away but I was determined to be brave. I managed to make it to the second highest level without looking down but then I ran into my nemesis … a line of people. As long as I can move at my own pace, I'm ok. But when I'm at the mercy of the people in front of me, it becomes an issue. So I quickly hopped a rope and made my way back down. I'll go back at a less crowded time :)
Had dinner at the Concourse Steakhouse last Saturday night. Such changes in that hotel! The first floor lobby is nearly complete and looks so different. The fourth floor still has lots of construction in the formerly open area where the pin shop was. There's a giant Mickey gateway visible behind the walls. From what I understand, the Concourse Steakhouse is not long for this world. Instead, a new casual restaurant will go on the first floor where the Food and Fun Center used to be, and the Concourse Steakhouse area will be converted to quick service. New food is always good. I'm looking forward to it!
Went to Downtown Disney on Monday to finally get a good look at the T-Rex restaurant construction. Wow, the area looks so huge! I think having another themed restaurant at Downtown Disney is a great idea. Ranforest Cafe is often so crowded and it's great to something a little more fun for the kiddies than Portobello Yacht Club and Fulton's House.
Finally, a couple of funny t-shirts I saw at the Magic Kingdom a couple of weeks ago. The first is a one of a new series of "en espanol" shirts available at Disney. Apparently, it's not important to translate the entire phrase…
And finally, a funny custom family t-shirt…
Christmas is coming! Merry Disney days ahead.
