Here's a brief look at Disney Fairy Tale Holiday
2008 produced for Target by Walt Disney Records and recently added to the
rotation on LaughingPlace Radio.
Disney Fairy Tale Holiday 2008 is currently #7 on Billboard’s Top Kids Audio released 5 weeks. It peaked at #5.
Disney Fairy Tale Holiday 2008 offers 12 tracks, lyrics and a fold-out holiday poster of Mickey and Friends
Tinker Bell In Neverland – Rated 2 of 4
Sung by David Wise, this song makes no reference to Christmas or the holiday season but instead focuses on Tinker Bell and the various things she does in Neverland. The up-tempo ballad invites you to join her on adventures in Neverland. The song suffers from simplistic lyrics using Neverland at the end of nearly each line of verse.
Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer – 4 of 4
Mickey, Minnie and Goofy recall the most famous reindeer. The characters personalities shine throughout the song as Goofy sings the first verse while Mickey and Minnie interject various comments such as “Sing it Goofy” and then Mickey and Minnie sing a later verse.
'Zat You, Santa Claus? – 3 of 4
Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band sing about their hope that the unexpected sounds outside their home are Santa Claus in this song previously featured on the 2006 Red and Green Christmas Album featuring the Muppets. The song’s flavor reminds me of the spooky Oogie Boogie Man number from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Deck The Halls – 3 of 4
Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and a traditional chorus sing this traditional Christmas song. I found the pace a bit slow but we do learn Goofy’s favorite thing about Christmas.
Pulling Santa's Sleigh – 2 of 4
Learn the trials of being one of Santa’s reindeer. You’ll discover the training required to deliver items as heavy as bowling balls and the various idiosyncrasies of Dasher, Donner and the rest. While I enjoyed the song its rating is based primarily on the fact the song is awkwardly paced and isn’t easily singable.
White Christmas – 3 of 4
Goofy offers an up-tempo rendition of this classic Christmas wish. The song features a simple arrangement with a chorus and instrumental accompaniment reminiscent of a country-western style slide guitar. I wish the song showcased more of Goofy’s quirky personality but it's nice to have the song performed with less melancholy.
Good King Wenceslas – 2 of 4
Bright quartet performs this traditional song with the gentle ringing of bright jingle bells.
Frosty The Snowman – 2 of 4
A familiar rendition to Disney fans performed by Larry Groce, the lead vocalist on many Disney Children’s albums through the years.
God Rest Ye Napping Kitty Cats – 2 of 4
Previously featured on “Celebrate Catmas!” an album that offers Christmas songs sung with cat's mentality, this song sings of “tiding of catnaps enjoyed, catnaps enjoyed” as they await Catmas Day. Not my taste.
Away In The Shelter – 1 of 4
Previously featured on “Celebrate Dogmas!” an album that offers “Christmas songs sung with dog's mentality, this song is a plaintive solo that I thought was simply awful.
Over The River And Through The Woods – 3 of 4
Sung brightly by Goofy with a chorale accompaniment. Its nice to hear the various verses of this easy to sing holiday season song. And I love the way Goofy sings “puuuuumpkin pie”
Winter In The Hundred Acre Wood – 2 of 5
Mellow ballad describing the various seasons in the Hundred Acre Wood with a special focus on its wintry beauty. The song features no specific reference to holiday celebrations or any of the Hundred Acre Wood residents or its familiar landmarks.
