I remember when I was a young FanBoy that I loved pretending I was a superhero. And let’s face it, there are worse people to emulate. Folks that sacrifice themselves for the common good. Perhaps the purest of heroes is Captain America. He does what is right and beyond his super powers, his most important attribute is that he is a good man. As Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes to theaters, Hasbro has released new toys that allow the kids of todays play with a hero of yesteryear. But perhaps that is what makes Cap so special. While his ideals are old-fashioned, they are at the same time timeless. Let’s go see what Hasbro has to celebrate the film. Note: these toys are not for kids only… as the collection in my living room proves.
Captain America Super Soldier Gear Shockwave Blast Action Figure
First we have a series of 3.75-inch action figures. Each of the six figures in the line feature articulation and a weapon who which fires projectiles or have a feature motion. The accessories are compatible with the stealthfire shield and the battle helmet which we will talk about in a bit. This is a good action figure with better than average articulation.
Captain America Marvel Blast ‘N Go Combat ATV Vehicle
It is clear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that Cap loves his vehicles. With this toy you can use the launching to blast Cap off on an adventure. Although this vehicle is a little more patriotic than the ones seen in the film, adding some american pride is not a bad thing.
Captain America Marvel Legends Captain America Figure 6 Inches
The six-inch Marvel Legends collection. Six of the seven figures in this collection feature pieces that you can collect to build a Mandroid figure. Please note, that just because a character is featured in this line does not mean they are featured in the film. But I am not entering spoiler territory by saying who is in the film and who is not. Spoiler Alert: The movie is amazing.
Captain America Shield Throwing 10″ Electronic Action Figure
If you like your action figures to have batteries, this electronic figure stylized in Captain America’s stealth costume from the film features sounds, hero phrases, and shield-throwing movement. This figure matches the film look more than most. For those wondering, this costume is inspired by the Heroic Age in the comics when Bucky was Captain America and Steve Rodgers was a part of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel Captain America Shield Blast Motorcycle Vehicle
This motorcycle toy comes with a removable Cap figure as well as three shield projectiles. It is a multi-tasking toy that lets you drive and shoot. While I would not normally condone distracted driving, sometimes freedom requires it.
Captain America Marvel Super Soldier Gear Stealthfire Shield Toy
This stealthfire shield hids four Nerf projectiles to catch your enemies by surprise. Pull the handle to reveal this shield’s secret. The launches will also retract automatically once fired. The shield also features a system to attach other super soldier accessories. This is a neat toy for those that want more kinetic energy from their shield.
Captain America Marvel Super Soldier Gear Battle Helmet
The super soldier battle gear helmet is a pretty cool piece of hardware. It features a light-up visor and a movable missile launcher. You can also add functionality by adding other super solider equipment.
Marvel Captain America Super Soldier Gear Dualshot Gauntlet
This extra super soldier gear comes as either a recon rangefinder or a dualshot gauntlet. Each piece of gear can be used in two different modes and as we discussed the equipment can be attached to the battle helmet or the stealthfire shield. Great add-ons to the existing toys.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier Flying Shield
Finally we have the piece that I picked up, the stealth flying shield that Captain America uses for much of the film. This is the ultimate role-play toy that allows you to wield the shield when not sending it off like a frisbee.
Hasbro has found a way to be creative with their toys considering Cap is really just known for one thing… his shield. He doesn’t have the gadgets of Iron Man or the armor of Thor, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make some cool toys based upon the first Avenger. Though in the end, the toys only click if the movie is good. Luckily Hasbro doesn’t need to worry about that.
