Recently, a press conference was held at The Walt Disney Studios to promote the release of Guardians of the Galaxy. Participating were Participants were Michael Rooker (Yondu), Chris Pratt (Peter Quill), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Vin Diesel (Groot), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), and Benicio Del Toro (The Collector; Taneleer Tivan) and director/writer James Gunn.
Here are some highlights of what we learned from the press conference:
When James Gunn came onboard there was already a script. He wanted to make changes so he ended up rewriting the whole script.
The first concept Gunn came up with was having the Walkman which is Peter Quill’’s connection to Earth and the emotional center of the film.
Benicio del Toro has some of “The Collector” in him. He was the first kid in his neighborhood to have a pet alligator.
After meeting and hitting it off, Chris Pratt wanted to hang out with Michael Rooker. Rooker said no.
According to Vin Diesel, his participation in the film started as a social media movement to get involved with Marvel.
This was Diesel’s first role since the death of Paul Walker
Diesel’s children now refer to trees as “Daddy’s brothers and sisters.”
It took Vin Diesel four days to record his role. In the script it would say “I am Groot” on the left hand side of the page and on the right side there would be a whole paragraph stating what “I am Groot” meant.
