Primate Day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Primate as ‘any member of the group of animals that includes human beings, apes, and monkeys.’ I look at them as a close cousin so it is always fun to get a chance to learn more about them.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom as part of their continuing effort to expand our knowledge of the animal world around us hosted Primate Day on August 5th out at Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

As with each of these animal focus days different stations are set up around the main floor of Conservation Station giving us a little bit more knowledge of some of our closets living relatives in the world we live in.

Some stations were purely to learn such as the GRACE table where we learned about project underway to help return orfend gorillas back into the wild.

And the importantamce of recycling electronics due to a minerals minded only in Africa that are used in small devices such as our cell phones.

But as always they had lots of stations to have fun and get into the act while learning about our friends by learning about how they live in the wild and what tools they may use to eat and drink.

Or my favorite the “day in the life of a cotton top tamarin” where you and a partner acted out a day in the life of a mother and father tamarin. SPOILER it’s wake up, gather food, eat, and sleep!

Some of the other stations had little games to help us understand how things we do in our every day lives can affect the world some of our more hairy family members live in.

But what would learning about Primates be without a look at how we learn about them.

Two of the last stations were more for the kids where you could dress and dance as a cotton-top tamarin and color and create you own tamarin.
