A mainstay of Disney’s Hollywood Studios since 1996 the American Film Institute Showcase has closed it’s doors. What started as a small area for Disney to showcase props and costumes from some of their films in 1996 was expanded to focus on pieces of movie history the AFI choose as worthy to be showcased. Over the years different exhibits would be changed out such as the Creatures of Distinction featuring models and maquette of some of your favorite movie creatures , the Driving the Story Exhibit where you could see some memorable modes of transportation, and of course the last exhibit The Best In Film: AFI’s 100 Years, 100 Movies.
This final exhibit featured props, costumes, and pieces of the behind the scenes things that made some of the most classic films over the past 100 years.
Many of the props were on loan from either studios or private collectors who were kind enough to give guests of Disney’s Hollywood Studios a close up look at them.
The classic Tim Burton Batman costume.
One of the Superman capes from the 1978 film.
A costume and prop paper from Chicago.
One of the most historic had to be these pieces from Gone With The Wind.
A costume and script from Scarface.
Scripts from Wall Street and Platoon.
A few pieces from one of my favorite films E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
A costume and a few of the marionettes from Sound of Music.
The two largest displays were for Titanic and a showcase of many of the smaller items that didn’t need much space.
But of all the items I do believe the one I will be most sad to leave is a actual whip from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Overall for a small hidden gem of the parks it is sad to see this go.
