The Disney Campus in Glendale played host to a special evening filled with merchandise unveilings of the spooky persuasion. Out on the central patio, booths were set up with carnival games for the attending families, like miniature golf and ring toss. There were also areas dedicated to Disney Junior, which featured Halloween cartoons playing on a screen, as well as one for Disney Publishing, that held readings of Halloween stories featuring popular Disney characters.
e.l.f. Cosmetics offered makeovers to guests using their new Sleeping Beauty-inspired products, entitled “Good vs. Evil.” The Beauty Book palette they had on hand featured a day and night set of eyeshadows (named after Aurora and Maleficent), two lip colors, and an eyeliner pencil. It also a had a lovely rose-shaped mirror on the left side of the book.
The main event for the evening was the fashion show, highlighting the Disney’s latest costumes for the coming trick-or-treat season. The first down the catwalk were two children dressed as that famous power couple, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
The pair were quickly followed by characters from the Disney Junior block: Doc McStuffins, Princess Sophia, and Jake of Jake and the Never Land Pirates fame.
Next came the Disney Princesses, such as Aurora and Cinderella, bedecked in their sparkly dresses and tiaras. Anna, Elsa, and Olaf from Frozen had the catwalk all to themselves and received extra attention from the MC.
Disney franchises like Star Wars and Marvel had their share of the spotlight, too. There were costumes for Spider-Man, Captain America, and Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star Lord. The models for these characters were especially lively and fun to watch. Adult Black Widow and Iron Man costumes coupled with a girl’s Captain America outfit and a child Hulk costume rounded out the super-hero portion of the line-up.
The Star Wars costumes drew from the classic trilogy along with the new Star Wars Rebels television show. We saw children’s outfits of Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Storm Troopers, Ezra, and the Inquisitor. In addition to the kids’ line, adults will be able to dress as former Jedi, Kanan Jarrus.
Other adult costumes included Woody and Jessie from Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story trilogy, the previously mentioned Black Widow and Iron Man, plus an absolutely fabulous Maleficent. The Mistress of All Evil is dressed as she appears in the live action film, Maleficent, complete with horns, wings, and scepter. Very impressive!
The final act of the fashion show was all about canine cartoon couture. That’s right. Costumes for your dogs. And, darn it, they were adorable. All of the model dogs were up for adoption from the local shelter, which I thought was a lovely touch. The puppies sported outfits modeled after Winnie the Pooh (with a little plush bee on the rump!), Spiderman, Princess Leia, and Buzz Lightyear. The costumed fit a variety of dog sizes, ranging from a tiny puppy to, well, a very large puppy. They could not have looked sweeter!
After the fashion show ended, we were welcome to relax and enjoy the other activities available. It was fun to watch the kids play and enjoy the new costumes. I know I am already more psyched for Halloween after attending!
