James Gunn, director and co-writer for the Disney and Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy, attended a signing at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles, California, on December 12. Unlike the Captain America event held at the same location earlier in the year, this was strictly a signing with no swag giveaways of any kind. That fact didn’t seem to make a difference to lines of fans who stood in the relatively cold weather with a threat of rain (it is Southern California, mind you).
The event started at 5 p.m. Pacific but they let the first group into the store’s indoor queue a little bit before that. Once inside, the line moved back and forth between the aisles of used records. People were craning their heads above the racks to try to see how close they were to the booth. I noted that a few of the people in line had won a spot near the front of the line, along with their copy of the movie, from a radio station.
You could tell immediately when James entered the room. Everyone cheered and applauded and the store’s musical score switched to songs from Guardians of the Galaxy. It created a cool atmosphere and people were really getting into it.
The line outside seemed to keep regenerating for a while, even past nightfall. But neither darkness nor dropping temperatures dissuaded attendees. It was great to see people sharing all this excitement.
Guardians of the Galaxy is now available for purchase on Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-Ray, DVD, and On-Demand.
