A Guide to Camp Half Blood

PercyPackBANNER

Ever wanted to visit Camp Half-Blood? Located on the north shore of Long Island, New York, this refuge has been offering sanctuary to Greek demigods for over a century. If you are one of the lucky demigods, then you may pass over the boundary line and enjoy a summer of excitement and adventure. Usually you will be escorted by a seeker, a satyr, but if you stumbled upon Camp Half-Blood by yourself you must be a demigod to enter. Use this guide to help you acclimatize to the camp.

**Orientation**

The magical boundary that you crossed keeps all humans and monsters out. First make a stop at the farmhouse where you will be greeted by the camp director Mr. D, the Greek god Dionysus, who oversees the camp and Chiron the activities director. They will probably have an orientation film for you to watch. It shouldn’t take long. Don’t be alarmed by Chiron having the body of a horse, he is a centaur and well known for training many Greek heroes including Hercules. In fact you should expect to see nymphs, monsters, satyrs, and even a Greek God while at Camp Half-Blood.

**Accommodation**

Depending on whether your godly parent has claimed you, you will get assigned to a cabin next. If you have been claimed you will be assigned to the cabin that is theirs. If not, you get assigned to Cabin 11, Hermes’ cabin. Since you are undetermined, non-identified demigods can stay here because he is the patron of all travelers. It’s really crowded in here, so hope you like sleeping on the floor.

**Activities**

You may have noticed the strawberry fields as you walked to your cabin. They are easy to grow with Dionysus being around, plus they get sold to all the restaurants in New York City. It helps pay for the upkeep of the camp, so don’t complain if you are asked to help pick them.

Take a walk around before dinner and check out the volleyball courts, archery range, canoeing lake, stables, javelin range, sing-along amphitheater, and an arena for sword and spear fights. You might wonder if they’re lethal? Not usually. The camp has cabin challenges with the events taking place in the arena. If you are new to the camp, you will need a sword and shield before taking part in any arena activities, ask Chiron if you can borrow some from the armoury. Yes, this camp has an armoury.

**Meals**

All meals are held at the outdoor mess hall pavilion. One thing to remember is you must give an offering of some of your food to the Gods. You don’t want to forget this on your first day and anger the Gods of Olympus.

Any food that you want is available, that’s the joy of being at a magical camp. While you are chowing down, have a look around and notice that the campers are wearing unique clay bead necklaces.

**Mementos**

At the end of each summer campers get a bead to add to their necklace. If you make it through the summer, you will have your first bead. What you can have right away is a Camp Half-Blood T Shirt.

As you settle into your cabin for your first night at Camp Half Blood, think about the adventures you will have, playing capture the flag, learning to ride a Pegasus, and maybe venturing out on a quest. Of course, if you’re not a demigod then you will have to settle for reading The Lightning Thief.
