It’s always fun to make a trip to Hollywood, and especially to the El Capitan Theatre. You always get to see the latest Disney movie and at times, a classic Disney film. This time, it was time to see Aladdin from 1992.
Opening nights at the El Capitan are always special as there are almost always surprises for everyone in attendance. Opportunity drawings are held, and you can win some fun prizes. Special Aladdin merchandise was up for grabs, and the winners were excited!
Another surprise was a special appearance from the singing voice of Aladdin, Brad Kane. Scott Weinger was supposed to be in attendance, but had to cancel because of a previous engagement. However, he did send a video greeting and introduced Brad at the end of the video. Special auditions were held at the El Capitan earlier that afternoon for an opportunity to sing “A Whole New World” with Brad on stage. Five singers were selected, and all auditioned with Brad on stage in front of the El Capitan audience. The field was then narrowed down to the top two contestants. By applause, the winner was chosen, and she had the chance to sing with Brad while the ‘A Whole New World’ scene was playing on the screen.
After Brad and the winner sang, we were told to put our electronic devices away. Why? Much to everyone’s surprise, we were shown “Sanjay’s Super Team.” This is the short that will play in front of The Good Dinosaur when it is released on November 25. Without giving away spoilers, I will say that I loved it and that Pixar did it again! Hopefully you will enjoy this short as much as I did.
Following “Sanjay’s Super Team,” the Genie made an appearance and danced to “Friend Like Me” by Ne-Yo. This version can be found on the new “We Love Disney” compilation album being released on Friday, October 30.
After the Genie’s song and dance number, it was time for Aladdin. The movie looked fresh, and I can’t wait to see it again on Blu-ray. Aladdin will be released on Disney Movies Anywhere on September 29, and Blu-ray on October 13.
Aladdin continues its limited run at the El Capitan Theatre through Sunday, October 4. Tickets are available at elcapitantheatre.com, or by calling 1-800-DISNEY6 (1-800-347-6396).
