Disneyland opened the Super Hero HQ on Monday, November 16 as the new park home for all the Marvel Super Heroes. Located on the second level of the former Innoventions building, the HQ retains popular elements that were already in place and adds some new attractions for fans of the Marvel universe.
There is a separate entrance for the HQ, to the south of the structure, leading to the former exit ramp. Guests are also able to access the HQ via the staircase at the center of the building. There is also an elevator. Inside, the HQ wraps around a balcony, with views to the Star Wars Launch Bay below.
One of the biggest new additions to the Super Hero HQ is the Marvel merchandise location. Merchandise fills one whole “wedge” of the building, with a D-Tech kiosk for creating custom phone cases. While the Marvel cases are ordered on the second level, they must be picked up at the Launch Bay location below. The merchandise offered is a drawn almost exclusively from the Marvel cinematic universe, although guests may note other Marvel characters in the store, notably Spider-Man.
Spider-Man also features prominently in a character meet and greet location. The V.A.U.L.T. replaces the former Captain America greeting location. The V.A.U.L.T. is “staffed” by members of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., who greet guests in their badges and uniforms. While Spider-Man is scheduled for the first weeks at the V.A.U.L.T., it is noted that there are prominent displays for Captain America and Ant-Man.
Remaining from the structures previous incarnation is the Thor meet and greet, along with Treasures of Asgard, and the Stark Industries exhibit of Iron Man suits. The Game Center also remains, featuring Marvel characters in Disney Infinity on Xbox One. There is also an area that appears to be reserved for an interactive experience based on the Infinity Gauntlet.
