Disneyland Resort Highlights Soarin’ Around the World

While most of the attention at the Disneyland Resort has been given to Frozen- Live at the Hyperion, that is not the only new attraction opening this summer at Disney California Adventure. Soarin’ Around the World opens to guests on June 17 at Disney California Adventure and Epcot.

This new adventure takes guests through amazing sights such as gliding over the snowy peak of the Matterhorn, along the Great Wall of China, through the majestic buttes of Monument Valley, hopping over the top of the Great Pyramids of Egypt, and across spectacular Sydney Harbour.

Disney recently revealed some of the new storytelling that incorporates Soarin’ Around the World into the Grizzly Peak Airfield:

As the story goes, pioneering pilots flocked to the area, drawn to the challenge of learning to fly near and over California’s Sierra Nevadas. Mountain elevations and erratic weather conditions became a proving ground for these courageous pilots, as well as a stimulus for creating improvements in aerodynamics and aircraft design.

Today, pilots continue to enjoy the challenge of flying in and around the majestic beauty of Grizzly Peak. The old hangar has become home to a new generation of fliers and aviation enthusiasts – some of whom have formed an organization and called the California Aviators. This group of dedicated aviators has developed a sort of flying theater – a hang-gliding simulator that brings the exhilarating experience of flying to all visitors.

Just as Grizzly Peak Airfield serves as a welcome center for California’s Sierra Nevadas, Soarin’ is the gateway to the thrills and wonders of flight. It celebrates man’s continuing search for freedom and exploration, which brings an even greater appreciation of nature’s grandeur.

For those wondering about the classic Soarin’ score, Soarin’ Around the World will feature a new score composed by Bruce Broughton and performed by the London Studio Orchestra. However, Broughton based the new score on the one from the original ride done by the late film and television composer Jerry Goldsmith.
