Last year was a big year for LEGO and Disney fans. For those that joined us for our livestream of our building of the Cinderella Castle set saw the construction of a toy that ended up winning Toy of the Year awards. At Toy Fair, it became clear that there are plenty of sets coming in 2017 that should make Disney fans happy. The sets span the Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel franchises.
It should be noted that there are Cars 3 and Star Wars: The Last Jedi sets coming from the folks at Lego. As Disney was not quite ready for the folks at LEGO to premiere these sets yet, they will not be covered here. But if LEGO’s excitement for Force Friday II is any indication, there should be some neat things coming.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the Disney LEGO sets coming in 2017.
Lego Duplo
Mickey Racer $14.99 15 pieces (Available in August)
This set comes with Mickey Mouse from Disney Junior’s Mickey and the Roadster Racers as well as a starting gate, racecar, and gas pump.
Minnie Mouse Bow-tique $39.99 70 pieces (Available in August)
This Disney Junior set recreates Minnie’s Bow-tique from the short-form Disney Junior series. It comes with the shop, outdoor set, Minnie, Daisy, and more.
Disney Princess
Ariel and the Magical Spell $29.99 222 pieces
This set recreated Ariel’s transformation from mermaid to human, thanks to the dark magic of Ursula. The best part of this set is that it comes with both Ariel’s fin and legs.
Cinderella’s Enchanted Evening $39.99 350 pieces (Available in August)
A more benevolent transformation happens with this set that features Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother. Transform a pumpkin into a coach and Cinderella’s tattered dress into her ball gown. It also comes with Cinderella’s chalet.
Marvel Super Heroes
Captain America Jet Pursuit $19.99 160 pieces
Captain America, Ms. Marvel, and Falcon come in this neat jet set which includes some fun play-action.
Iron Man: Detroit Steel Strikes $29.99 377 pieces
This set plays up Tony Stark’s playboy personality as he takes on the larger Detroit Steel figure with his fun sports car.
Ravager Attack $19.99 197 pieces
This entry level Guardians of the Galaxy set comes with fan-favorite Rocket along with newcomers Mantis and Taserface.
Ayesha’s Revenge $29.99 323 pieces
This Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set might make a bit more sense once the movie comes out. While the set includes Yondu, Star-Lord, and Ayeshia, the highlight is Baby Groot.
The Milano vs. The Abilisk $49.99 460 pieces
This headling set recreates the iconic moment from the trailer. Our Guardians take on the Abilisk. It also includes four Guardians with Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, and Nebula.
Star Wars
Republic Fighter Tank $24.99 305 pieces
Relive the Prequels with this introductory set. Despite it’s smaller size, it includes 4 minifigures with two Battle Droids, a Clone Trooper Gunner, and Jedi Aayla Secura.
Darth Vader Transformation $24.99 282 pieces
Anakin transforms into our favorite Sith in this set. The set includes an injured Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine.
Tracker I $69.99 557 pieces
If you didn’t catch The Freemaker Adventures on Disney XD, you really missed out and should check out the Disney XD app to catch up. There are two sets inspired by this fun LEGO series. This one features the “bad guy ship” which has great flexibility and looks like a blast to play with.
The Arrowhead $89.99 775 pieces
The best piece from the Freemaker collection is The Arrowhead. I love the fact that includes my favorite character, “Roger.” This new ship in the Star Wars Universe was made with LEGO in mind so it works well in the medium. (Not that they don’t all do.)
First Order Transport Speeder Battle Pack $14.99 117 pieces
There are some fun new sets inspired by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The introductory set features the First Order. I love adding this set to other sets to give the good guys so good bad guys.
Jakku Quadjumper $49.99 457 pieces
This piece is a great way to bring the iconic world of Jakku into your home. With Finn, Rey, BB-8, and more, this is a great mid-range set that pairs nicely with the First Order set.
Rothar Escape $79.99 836 pieces
Recreate one of the most fun parts of The Force Awakens. Not only do you get to play with some Rothars, you also get to have an old Han Solo minifigure. From a film recreation perspective, this set is perfect.
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Silent Mary $199.99 2,294 pieces
This is the best Disney related set of the year. While we know very little about the film, there is no secret that this ship will play a large role. This set features a hinged bow section, opening skeleton hull with decay and destruction detailing, movable rudder, collapsible main mast and two further masts, long bowsprit with crow’s nest and mast, tattered sails, detailed quarterdeck, plus a rowboat with two oars and an array of weapons and accessory elements. Also includes eight minifigures: Captain Jack Sparrow, Henry, Carina, Lieutenant Lesaro, Captain Salazar, Officer Magda, Officer Santos and the Silent Mary Masthead, plus two detachable ghost sharks. While all those names might not be known to us now, there is no doubt they will be known in just a few months.
