The Marvel Gear + Goods Weapon X crate may be the most disappointing subscription box that I have ever received. Join me as we discuss each individual item and why I ended up being so disappointed. Here is the official Loot Crate description: You have been officially drafted by the Weapon X Program. Enclosed, you will find specialized, tactical gear to augment your mutant abilities and aid you in your missions. You will become the best there is at what you do, and what you do best will not be very nice.
Wolverine Canvas Go-Bag
This is the one item in the box that I actually liked. The messenger bag features Wolverine styling and a Weapon X strap adjuster. The bag is surprisingly well made and sturdy. It even features a cell phone pocket which is a nice bonus touch. While this is not the item to use when trying to hide your fandom, it would make a great accessory at any fan event.
All-New Wolverine Canvas Water Bottle
Featuring the “All-New Wolverine” aka X-23 and “Jonathan the Unstoppable,” this water bottle features some great art by Cameron Stewart. Unfortunately, it is not particularly useful. Unlike a bottle or cup, you really can’t stand this bottle up in a car or on a desk. Since I can’t conceive of a reason to use it, the amazing art will just be wasted.
X-Force Headlamp
This headlamp, which does come with batteries, might be useful to those often go jogging or ride a bike at night. But since it is usefulness is limited, it is disappointing that the themeing is limited. With just some logos next to the lamp, it comes across as uninspired.
Wolverine Socks
Socks have become popular and these socks are a great homage to a classic Wolverine costume. While not my cup of tea, I can understand their inclusion. The socks are comfortable and soft. That being said, the yellow tone doesn’t excatly keep your geekdom hidden.
Sabretooth Enamel Pin
This pin of perhaps the second most famous product of the Weapon X program, Victor Creed, is a nice bonus item. The art is good and the pin is a nice size.
Missing: Wolverine Key Holder
We were also supposed to received a Wolverine Key Holder, but it was not included in my box. When I emailed Loot Crate’s customer support team, I received the following message: I will get a replacement out to you. Due to a current warehouse move, please note that your replacement will ship later than usual. We are anticipating replacements to ship out in the beginning of April and once it has been processed, you will receive an email with new tracking information. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. As of my writing this (April 9, 2017), I have yet to receive the replacement.
All in all, I was disappointed with this crate, but the messenger bag made it so that this was not a complete waste. And since Loot Crate recently lowered the price by $5 to $34.99, I do feel a bit better. But missing an item, is inexcusable and not the first time our household has had this problem with Loot Crate. I would advise them on making operational improvements to ensure that this does not happen.
The next box is Cosmic Party and will Yondu Geeki Tiki mug. Let’s hope this one goes better.
