If you were wondering what for to do for National S’mores Day (August 10th, as everyone knows), and wanted to mark the occasion at the Disneyland Resort, we have just the way to celebrate. The Uva Bar has a menu item that not only incorporates a genuine s’more (minus that smoky, messy campfire) but also combines it with a summertime favorite: the root beer float. (Fun fact: National Root Beer Float Day was August 6th.) The treat, a regular item on their bar menu, is (logically) their S’more Root Beer Float.
It is exactly as promised: a root beer float combined with a s’more. This is a carefully crafted float, featuring Henry Weinhard’s Root Beer and marshmallow ice cream, with a crown of toasted marshmallows and topped with a genuine house-made s’more nestled in a cloud of whipped cream. It is served in a tall glass, accompanied by more root beer in the bottle, and an extra napkin.
We sampled the dessert on a recent summer evening and found it to be one very sweet treat. The toasted marshmallows offer an instant transport to evenings around the campfire. The craft root beer is intensely flavored and is a good foil for the specialty ice cream. (One caveat: the root beer would have been better served ice cold.) The s’more was a true classic, with just the right combination of melted chocolate, toasted marshmallow and graham cracker. And, for the cherry on top, there’s a cherry on top.
For those who have not yet experienced the Uva Bar, bear in mind that, cocktails and other adult beverages aside, there is a full bar menu and other tasty desserts. Located literally in the middle of Downtown Disney, it’s an ideal location for people watching while enjoying a treat. Like the S’more Root Beer Float. On National S’mores Day. (Did we mention that’s on August 10th?)
