The Disneyland Candlelight Ceremony and Processional has been a feature of the holidays since 1958. This year Disney added an element of mystery to the eagerly anticipated event, announcing the name of the guest narrator just before their entrance. Based on crowd reaction, it was worth the element of surprise. Chris Hemsworth, who performs as Thor for Marvel films was the reader of the Christmas story.
The entire ceremony takes place in Disneyland Town Square. Massed choirs, soloists, and special lighting transform the familiar surroundings for just two nights in early December. Saturday crowds gathered early as guests speculated on who the reader would be. Sunday found the park at near capacity, and parking lots were closed shortly before the 5:30 presentation.
