Solo’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Easter Egg

Warning: this post contains some light spoilers for Solo: A Star Wars Story

While Solo: A Star Wars Story may not have performed as well at the box office as some would have hoped this weekend, the film has led to a lot of discussions. First, there was that big reveal and what it could mean for future installments of the saga and now it appears that the movie actually contains a nod to the upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land coming to Disney Parks next year.

Galaxy's Edge

During last night’s Star Wars Galactic Nights event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we got confirmation that the village we’ll be visiting on Batuu is called Black Spire Outpost. If that sounds familiar, it may be because L3-37 mentions a similar location in Solo. While the droid, Lando, and the rest of the gang approach the Millennium Falcon, L3 says that Lando couldn’t find Black Spire without her. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where this name drop wasn’t perfectly intentioned and is meant to reference the land’s setting.

If you’re still not convinced, the description of Black Spires Outpost from Disney certainly sounds like the type of place where someone like Lando would ike to spend their time

Black Spire Outpost is an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space. Off the beaten path, this outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Widely known for the petrified remains of its once towering ancient trees, the spires now stand guard across the river valleys and plains and have long captured the imagination of travelers to this planet.

Does this mean that, when fans encounter the Falcon at Galaxy’s Edge, it won’t be the first time the famed ship has traveled that way? Surely we’ll learn more as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge prepares to launch in summer 2019 at Disneyland and late fall 2019 at Walt Disney World
