Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure is anchored at each end with a major retail shop. Knick’s Knacks opened before the rest of the Pixar Pier officially debuted; Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff had a belated opening. While there are sweets to be found, Bing Bong is proving more elusive.
The location, at the end of the game section and next door to the bandstand, will not be the end of Pixar Pier, once the Inside Out “neighborhood” is added later this year. The colorful shop incorporates the former “sideshow” area of Paradise Pier.
The shop’s offerings include both sweet stuff and souvenirs. Themed candy is offered in kiosks, as well as at a counter location that features frozen treats. “Memory Refreshers” are available in Rainbow Unicorn, Sunshine in a Cup, Imaginary Pal, Slow Burn and Gloomy Blues. Long lines form for these treats, and they do sell out.
All souvenirs in the shop are from Pixar themed products, including films that are not represented on Pixar Pier. Among the offerings are costumes, mugs, shirts and other items from films as diverse as Brave, Up, and Monsters U. Of course, Inside Out items are in abundance. The cash register (at the opposite end of the store from Memory Refreshers) features a large photo of Rainbow Unicorn in a lighted frame.
The shop has its own penny press, with three exclusive designs derived from Inside Out.
Incidentally, after our visit, the Bing Bong sketch covering where the figure will be was updated and the character’s nose no longer protrudes through the drawing. It’s unclear when the full figure will debut. In the meantime, Pixar Pier is now open and Pixar Fest continues through September 3rd.
