Blu-Ray Review: Disney•Pixar’s “Incredibles 2”

Disney•Pixar’s Incredibles 2 hit theaters last summer, 14-years after the original film debuted. With such a big gap between films, it beat the odds and became the highest grossing animated film of all time! And now it can be yours to watch again and again with the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD Multi-Screen Edition.

The fun starts where the first film left off, with the Parr family teaming up as the Incredibles to stop the dastardly Underminer. Their good intentioned attempt to stop a villain ends up getting them in big trouble, with the super hero program being shut down for good. On their own again, Bob and Helen are seduced by a wealthy fan who wants to restore public trust in supers.

One of the reasons the film works so well is the fun reversal between traditional parent roles. Elastigirl is chosen as the hero that can help renew public trust and is sent out on assignments while Mr. Incredible stays home with the kids. But they will learn that they are all stronger together when they work as a family.

The sequel improves on the original in many ways and the film benefits from having a lot more Jack Jack. The adorable baby stole the show in the original film, but had such a small part. Some of the sequel’s biggest laughs come from characters reacting to Jack Jack’s explosion of powers, with new ones popping up every scene.

This Blu-Ray release contains hours of bonus features that take you behind the scenes, including a brand-new animated short. The theatrical short Bao is here, too, along with its own bonus feature. This review covers the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital combo pack, but fans can also pick it up in 4K or as a standalone DVD release.
