Universal Studios Hollywood Gives Back to Los Angeles Community with 14th Annual Day of Giving

Southern California has been one of the most popular places in the world for theme park fans for over half a century, but it’s also a place where the local theme parks give back to the surrounding communities on a regular basis. One annual event at Universal Studios Hollywood exists to do just that: the “Day of Giving” outreach effort has been held at the park for fourteen years and counting, with a stated goal of “connecting employees with diverse community organizations, many of which are beneficiaries of the Discover A Star Foundation whose mission is to empower individuals and families to lead more productive and fulfilling lives.”

This past Thursday, I attended the “Operation School Bell” portion of Day of Giving, which provides more than three hundred homeless children with a selection of new clothing and school supplies, plus an afternoon of fun at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The day-long Day of Giving 2018 event also supported several other non-profit organizations across Project Angel Food, Tree People, MEND, Union Rescue Mission and Shane’s Inspiration.

More information about Universal Studios Hollywood’s Discover A Star Foundation:

The Discover A Star Foundation was established by a group of Universal executives in 1995 to support local organizations and projects that empower individuals and families to lead more productive and fulfilling lives.

Organizations chosen are aligned with our company’s emphasis on employee engagement and volunteerism. Since its inception, the Foundation has raised over $8 million and has provided financial assistance to over 65 non-profit organizations.

Fundraising for the Foundation continues on an annual basis and culminates each September with the Company’s most significant fundraising effort: the Universal Studios Charity Golf Classic. In 2017, the event generated over $730,000, bringing the Foundation’s cumulative proceeds to over $9 million.
