Hey there, hi there, ho there! They’re as 90 as can be. Yesterday Mickey Mouse and his lifelong counterpart Minnie Mouse celebrated their ninetieth birthday together all around the world, but nowhere was it more meaningful and cheerful than at Walt Disney’s original Magic Kingdom: Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
The big cheeses Mickey and Minnie took to the Disneyland parade route with dozens of their energetic Disney character friends, the Disneyland Band, that famous barbershop quartet the Dapper Dans, and Disneyland Resort Ambassadors Mikey Trujillo and Alexa Garcia to commemorate nine full decades since the premiere of their first animated short to ever see a wide release: “Steamboat Willie,” which was first shown in theaters on November 18, 1918.
Watch Mickey and Minnie Mouse’s 90th Birthday Celebration at Disneyland:
“Disneyland Resort in California will host a celebration cavalcade for Mickey Mouse on November 18, featuring some of his special friends and the Disneyland Band, starting at “it’s a small world” and pausing for a special moment at Sleeping Beauty Castle before continuing down Main Street, U.S.A., to Town Square. The party continues when World’s Biggest Mouse Party begins at Disneyland Resort in 2019.”
Among the specific Disney characters spotted in the parade were Pluto, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, Pinocchio, Geppetto, Jiminy Cricket, Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, Max, Goofy, Merlin, Marie, Clarice, Brer Bear, Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, Fairy Godmother, Cinderella, Bert, Mary Poppins, Dopey, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Belle, Mulan, Mushu, Tigger, Eeyore, Winnie the Pooh, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts, the White Rabbit, Alice, Tiana, Meeko, Pocahontas, Jasmine, Aladdin, Genie, Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, and Princess Aurora.
“As Walt said, ‘I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing—that it was all started by a mouse’,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products. “In our parks around the world, we are honoring the deep connection that families and fans have made with Mickey and Minnie Mouse for nearly a century.”
