Five films debut in 2019 based on Marvel Comics, including three from Marvel Studios (Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home) and two from 20th Century Fox (Dark Phoenix, New Mutants). 2019 is also the 80th anniversary of Marvel as a company. It’s going to be an excelsior year for Marvel fans and thanks to Hasbro, there will be no shortage of collectibles and toys to choose from.
One of the coolest reveals was the relaunch of Hasbro Pulse, which has replaced Hasbro Toy Shop and gives fans the ability to purchase and preorder toys directly from Hasbro. In fact, several of the Marvel items announced were instantly available to preorder, and some even fell under the branding of “See Now Buy Now,” meaning they were instantly available for purchase and will ship within a week.
80th Anniversary Collection
Similar to 2018’s Marvel Studios 10th Anniversary Collection, the 80th Anniversary of Marvel Comics features some Marvel Legends figures in classic comic form, as well as some MCU figures making their debut. This collection launches this fall and features 17 figures between 10 sets, with the majority of the figures available in a 2-pack. Classic comic likenesses will be available for Iron Man (1980’s era), Captain America (with scales), Thor, Hulk, Wolverine (first appearance from Hulk 181), Colossus, and Juggernaut. From the MCU, we will get Captain America in World War II gear paired with Peggy Carter from Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron-Man and Iron-Spider from Avengers: Infinity War, Grandmaster and Korg from Thor: Ragnarok, Hela and Skurge from Thor: Ragnarok, plus Ghost and Luis from Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Marvel Legends Waves
Black Panther Wave 2 adds Dora Milaje, Erik Killmonger, Ulysses Klaue, Black Panther, Infinity War Black Panther, and T’Chaka to the series. Collecting the entire set creates a Build-A-Figure of M’Baku. These are available now for $19.99 each.
A new Spider-Man wave will give fans the chance to own Spider-Man, Spider-Man Stealth, Doppleganger, Spider-Woman, Scorpion, and Hydro Man. Scorpion is a big deal as this 6-inch figure has a 13-inch bendable tail. Doppleganger was difficult to produce due to his eight arms. All of these figures will be released later this Spring.
Hasbro wasn’t able to share any information about Avengers: Endgame figures other than to say there will be figures from it. But details about two Avengers waves were revealed, both scheduled for 2019. The first wave includes Citizen V, Living Laser, Hercules, Nighthawk, and Infinity War Maw.
A second Avengers wave will include classic Loki, Bangarang Bill, Union Jack, Rock Python, and Shuri with sonic gauntlets.
A new X-Men wave is now available for Pre-Order. The collection includes Gambit, Beast, Weapon X, Forge, Blink, Jubilee, and Skullbuster. Jubilee has two heads, one of which is blowing bubble gum. The Build-A-Figure from this set is Calaban.
This fall, fans can pick up a wave of X-Force figures that includes Guardian, Cannonball, Boom Boom, Nightcrawler, and Mister Sinister.
A retro X-Men collection will debut this fall in packaging that harkens back to the 1990’s Toy Biz figures. Characters in this collection include Wolverine, Dazzler, Silver Samurai, and Cyclops.
Three new figures are being added to the Marvel Legends Vehicles series. Professor X with Hoverchair and Deadpool with Scooter are now available for Preorder. This Fall, Captain America with Motorcycle will join the series in his WWII gear.
Marvel Legends Store Exclusives
As per usual, several retailers will have exclusive Marvel Legends figures and 2-packs. Hasbro shared which figures can be found where at Toy Fair to help fans complete their collections.
Target
Spider-Man in a jacket from Spider-Man Homecoming is paired with Hasbro’s first MJ figure, played by Zendaya. Now available for preorder.
Amazon
A three-pack of the Brotherhood will be exclusive to Amazon this fall, consisting of Magneto, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch. This trio will retail for $59.99.
Walgreens
Infamous Iron Man will debut this Spring at Walgreens stores, and Emma Frost will launch in the fall.
WalMart
Themed to Avengers: Infinity War, Loki and Corvus Glaive will be available in a 2-pack this Spring and retails for $39.99.
Premium Role Play
Marvel Legends has a lot of great role play products geared at adult collectors, such as the Infinity Gauntlet and Captain America Shield. New this year is an Ant-Man Helmet, which has an adjustable fit and two LED light modes, one for shrinking and one for growing. Retail price is $99.99 and this was one of the “See Now Buy Now” surprises.
From Nerf Rival, the Deadpool Chimichanga Blaster does exactly what it sounds like. It comes with a foam chimichanga and shoots it out at top speed. This will be a Fan Channel Exclusive, which means it will be available at a limited number of retailers that specialize in adult collectables, such as Entertainment Earth and GameStop.
Spider-Man: Far From Home
While Marvel Studios is keeping all things Avengers: Endgame top secret, they are far less protective of their July release through Sony, Spider-Man: Far From Home. While they couldn’t reveal any Marvel Legends figures (except to say that there will be some), they were able to showcase their playline pieces, including action figures. The Cyclone Web Blaster adds a new twist to the iconic toy, with a spinning nozzle that shoots web fluid in a circular motion. The Web Burst Blaster allows kids to shoot web fluid from their hands instead of their wrists. And three Web Shots products are a less messy alternative where web fluid is replaced by other items, like spinners, discs, and darts. WalMart has an exclusive role play set full of Web Slinging Armor.
Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel is just a few weeks away and Hasbro recently sent us a box full of toys, including some of the Marvel Legends figures, three dolls, and a role play item. Be sure to check out our review if you’re curious to see more of Hasbro’s Captain Marvel figures. They were all on display at Toy Fair, along with a few items I hadn’t seen yet.
Marvel Superhero Adventures: Mega Mighties
Aimed at preschoolers, Marvel Superhero Adventures makes the Marvel Universe accessible to little kids. Under Hasbro’s Playskool brand, these figures are big enough that they can’t become a choking hazard with exaggerated features to look more childlike. An array of these products were on display and will be appearing in stores throughout 2019.
Of all the Marvel products revealed at Hasbro’s showcase this year, I am most excited for the 80th Anniversary Marvel Legends series, as well as the retro X-Men collection. The 1990’s X-Men animated series and toy line was my gateway to the Marvel Universe and I’m very nostalgic for these designs. It just goes to show that regardless of your level of Marvel fandom, Hasbro has something for everyone. Excelsior!
