Good morrow, fair readers. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom’s Marine World Experience kicked off Renaissance Days on March 6th, transforming the Northern California theme park’s main entrance area into ye olden times. From costumed characters and live entertainment to craftsmen selling wares and hearty food offerings, a visit to the Bay Area theme park on weekends in March offers fun opportunities.
What once twas a Christmas tree has been transformed into a maypole of sorts, with ribbons decorating the plaza connecting to several of the open air shops, operated by partners from the The Northern California Renaissance Faire.
All of the Renaissance Days experiences are centralized to this area, with the rest of the park offering your typical Marine World Experience offerings, which include the opportunity to see some amazing animals and attend several socially distanced shows. But if ye came for a step back in time, there’s no finer way to live like a king or queen than feasting on a giant turkey leg.
Most of the tents erected are selling goods and wares, but one location offers the chance to have your fortune told and to blend together fragrances to walk away with your own unique perfume.
Renaissance Days is a family-friendly version of a renaissance fair and the first shop you’ll happen upon feels aimed directly at the youngest lads and lasses in attendance, selling crowns, ribbons, and wings.
If ye want to live like royalty in your own home, you might want to bring home a goblet or chalice to drinketh your mead from.
In the market for jewelry? Keep your loved one faithful with a puzzle ring, including some high-end offerings and the ability to order a custom-made piece, or prepare for your next globe trotting adventure with an astrolabe.
My favorite shop sold hand carved wooden journals and nightlights/tealights using sliced geodes with wooden silhouettes in all manner of shapes and sizes.
Need something to carry all your treasures home in? Try out a handmade woven bag or basket to stay in the spirit of the times.
And you can make your home stand out with a handmade metal medallion, completely customized and made on site.
Live entertainment takes the stage throughout the day to entertain the crowds, all in addition to the Marine World animal shows and at no additional cost.
The event is scheduled for weekends through the month of March and reservations are required in advance, which can be made at SixFlags.com/Reserve.
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is a unique blend of thrilling attractions and animal experiences. On this visit, we saw one of the parks otters out for a walk with his handlers while some penguins looked on from their habitat.
And with the recent announcement that theme parks in California can reopen at 15% capacity starting April 1st, we noticed a lot of maintenance team members out getting several attractions ready. The park has not yet announced a date at which attractions will be available to guests, but we saw Batman: The Ride in action on our journey back to the parking lot.
There are three more weekends in March to experience Renaissance Days at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom’s Marine World Experience. Fare thee well!
