As of today, summer 2021 is officially upon us. And nowhere is that more evident than at Southern California’s SeaWorld San Diego theme park, where the Electric Ocean summertime celebration is back in full swing.
I spent a day at SeaWorld San Diego last Thursday enjoying the park’s recently reopened attractions, soaking in the sunny atmosphere, and sticking around after dark to check out everything Electric Ocean had to offer that evening. In the livestream video below, I walked around the perimeter of SeaWorld with an eye out for everything new for this year’s exciting summer season.

Earlier in the day I recorded a full performance by the live band at “Static Shock Rock Show,” who jam out to an energetic collection of familiar cover songs drawing from several decades of rock n’ roll.

Then at night, just before park closing time, I caught the “Ignite” fireworks show and partnered it in the video below with a walk through SeaWorld San Diego’s colorful light tunnel and the fun Laser Reef experience near the exit.

During the day, I wanted to enjoy some of the attractions that hadn’t been open for over a full year during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the Shipwreck Rapids below.

I also took a ride on the Bayside Skyride, a very pleasant upcharge attraction ($6 on top of park admission, but according to SeaWorld the money does go to a good animal rescue cause) that looks out over the theme park and the adjacent Mission Bay.

I also went for a spin on the Manta roller coaster, though I was not allowed to record video on that attraction. And I was disappointed to find that both the Sky Tower and Journey to Atlantis attractions remain closed, though hopefully they’ll be returning soon as advertised on the SeaWorld San Diego website.
Once nighttime fell, SeaWorld San Diego became all about Electric Ocean, though some of the event’s experiences are only available on weekends and holidays, and others like “Cirque Neon World” and “High Voltage Brass Band” don’t start until July. Still, I got a fun taste of a theme park roaring back to life after an extremely unorthodox year.
Electric Ocean runs from now through September 6 at SeaWorld San Diego. For more information and advance ticketing resources, be sure to visit SeaWorld’s official website.
