“Captain America: Brave New World” Red Carpet Premiere Interrupted by Protestors

The demonstrators reference the inclusion of the Israeli character Sabra in the film.

Tonight’s premiere red carpet for Captain America: Brave New World was interrupted by protesters.

What’s happening:

  • As seen in a video shared by THR, the Hollywood event for Marvel’s latest film attracted demonstrators chanting slogans such as “Disney, you can’t hide - we charge you with genocide" and “Every time Disney lies, a little bit of Gaza dies."
  • One protestor seen in the video is holding a sign that reads “Sabra has got to go."
  • This is a reference to the Israeli Marvel superhero Sabra who appears in the film.
  • The character of Ruth Bat-Seraph is played by actress Shira Haas who is Israeli herself.
  • However, it was announced that Sabra would no longer be a Mossad agent in the film.
  • Marvel had previously announced a live stream of the red carpet, but this ended up not happening — presumably due to the demonstration.
  • Captain America: Brave New World officially opens on February 14th.
