“Agatha All Along” Creator Jac Schaeffer Set to Direct Pilot Episode for Disney+’s “Holes”

Based on the 1998 novel and 2003 film, the new series will add a new twist to the story many Disney fans know and love.

Disney’s new Holes adaptation has reached a major milestone in its development, tapping Jac Schaeffer to direct the Disney+ series.

What’s Happening:

  • Variety is reporting that Disney has selected WandaVision and Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer to direct the pilot episode of their upcoming adaptation of Holes.
  • Disney Branded Television ordered the pilot back in January. Set to hit Disney+, the new TV adaptation of Louis Sachar’s 1998 book of the same name is being written by Alina Mankin with Liz Phang serving as showrunner. Both are set to executive produce.
  • In the original novel and Disney 2003 film, the story focuses on Stanley Yelnats (Shia LaBeouf) as he gets sent to a detention camp after being accused of stealing a pair of shoes. While there, the ruthless warden (Sigourney Weaver) forces him and the other teenage boys to dig holes all day.
  • This version of the story will twist the story a bit, focusing instead on a yet to be named teenage girl.
  • In addition to serving as a showrunner and executive producer for Marvel’s Agatha All Along, Schaeffer directed episodes 1, 2, and 7 of the show. Episode 7 earned high praise from fans and critics for its intricate storyline and stellar performance from Patti LuPone.
  • Other notable Disney projects Schaefer has been involved in include Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (writer) and Black Widow (story credit).
  • Other executive producers include Drew Goddard, Sarah Esberg, Andrea Massaro, Walden Media, Shamrock, and Mike Medavoy.
