Photos: Astro Orbiter Looks Skeletal As Refurbishment Picks Up

The spinning attraction is set to return this summer.

Earlier this month, the Astro Orbiter at Magic Kingdom closed down for a multi-month refurbishment. Last week, we shared a construction update on the attraction, and so much work has happened. Let’s take a look!

Refurbishment Update:

  • One of Tomorrowland’s most iconic attractions is currently closed for an extended refurbishment.
  • Astro Orbiter, which sits atop the PeopleMover, closed on January 13th as expected to reopen for the summer season at the resort.
  • While visiting the park today, we caught an update on construction on the attraction, which has seen much of its theming removed as the attraction is carefully disassembled.
  • Normally depicting a solar system display, the rings around the attraction have had all of their planets removed.

  • Additionally, the attraction's tall spire has been completely removed. You’ll also notice the lower portion of the ride’s theming shows that the light covers have been removed exposing the ride’s light fixtures and green gels.

  • It’ll be interesting to see if this refurbishment ties the attraction into Tomorrowland’s continued aesthetic changes. Astro Orbiter was one of the last untouched elements of the land’s 1990s sci-fi overhaul.
  • As the attraction’s extended refurbishment continues, we will be back to update you as more progress occurs.
