New Digital Projectors Enhance Portion of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Walt Disney World

No official confirmation but the difference is crystal clear.

Over a quarter-century has passed since the debut of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, and now we’ve noticed a technical upgrade bringing some crystal-clear clarity to this Tomorrowland classic.

What’s Happening:

  • Guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort and heading into Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom may realize a bit of an enhancement when visiting a Tomorrowland classic.
  • It seems that (though officially unconfirmed) new digital projectors have been installed in a segment of the popular Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin attraction, in a portion of the attraction that surrounds guests in a domed screen.
  • The footage does not appear to be changed greatly, but the quality, brightness, and clarity of this portion of the attraction (which a particular sect of Disney fans might recognize as a “superspeed tunnel") has been greatly enhanced.
  • You can even hear the crowd reaction to this portion of the attraction in our new video, below.

  • Dating back to 1998, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been putting guests into the middle of a battle with Buzz Lightyear’s arch-nemesis from Toy Story 2, the evil emperor Zurg, who is stealing batteries from helpless toys to power a new weapon of destruction.
  • Guests can board their XP-37 star cruiser and voyage deep into the Gamma Quadrant, where they’ll take aim at the glowing “Z" targets with their infrared laser cannon, and use the cruiser’s joystick to spin a full 360 degrees, so they can blast all the targets in sight.
  • The attraction has been so successful it has been replicated at numerous Disney Parks around the world, adopting the name “Astro Blasters" (Disneyland), “Planet Rescue" (Shanghai Disneyland), or “Laser Blast" (Disneyland Paris).
