Ride Vehicles for New Magic Kingdom Cars Ride Shared at SXSW
Imagineers went off-roading to help develop the experience and the vehicles.
During a presentation at SXSW today, Disney revealed a new look at the ride vehicles for a Cars experience coming to Magic Kingdom.
What’s Happening:
- As announced at last year’s D23, two new rides inspired by Cars will be coming to Frontierland at Walt Disney World.
- Today, Disney shared a look at the new ride vehicles for one of the attractions.
- As Imagineer Michael Hundgen explained, the ride will utilize a customized production vehicle.
- Imagineers even took a trip to the Arizona desert to try real off-road vehicle to see what it felt like driving over the rocky terrain.
- Previously, some footage of the ride was shown at D23 Brazil:
What They’re Saying:
- Imagineer Michael Hundgen: “Our primary goal is creating an emotional experience for our guests. For this Cars attraction, we need to invent a new type of ride vehicle. No one builds these in a factory because it has to do so much more than just carrying you from one place to another. We have to create a car that conveys a feeling when you ride in it."
More Disney SXSW announcements:
- In addition to the popular BDX droids coming to more Disney Parks around the world later this year, it’s been confirmed that they will appear in the upcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu.
- Speaking of The Mandalorian & Grogu, the previously-announced new mission for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will debut on the same day as the film.
- The Fantastic Four will appear in Disneyland Park this summer when the latest Marvel film hits theatres.
- A new animatic showing the Monsters Inc. door coaster’s unique load area has been unveiled.
