I recently spoke with Jeff Apploff, executive producer of FOX’s hit game shows Don’t Forget the Lyrics! and Beat Shazam about the success of the two shows, and the work put into creating each episode of the musical themed game shows.
Don’t Forget the Lyrics! returns for its third season on Thursday, May 23 at 9/8c on FOX,
with episodes streaming on Hulu the next day. Hosted by Niecy Nash, contestants have their music memories challenged in their quest to win $1 million dollars. They may start of singing with the studio band, but when the music stops and the words disappear, contestants will be forced to show their musical mettle or fold under pressure.
Beat Shazam returns for its seventh season on Tuesday, May 28 at 8/7c on FOX with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu. Jamie Foxx is back with his daughter Corinne Foxx as co-host. The two lead contestants in a battle of two teams of two to identify the biggest hit songs of all time. At the end, the team with the most money will face off against Shazam, the popular song app, in hopes of winning $1 million.
Jeff talked about the joy of working on set with his supremely talented hosts, and the work it takes in the lead up to filming. Check out my conversation with the maestro of music game shows below:
