March 11, 2016 will be remembered as a sad day for Disney’s Animal Kingdom fans. It was the last day of Gi-Tar Dan. If you visited the park in the past almost 20 years, odds are high you had a chance to hear this talented man singing a song he made up on the spot about a guest or a family.
I can remember my first visit in the late 90’s and coming out of Festival of the Lion King in Camp Minnie-Mickey and hearing him just playing one of the songs from The Jungle Book, keeping the small crowds entertained and I had to pause to sing along. Dan had been relocated to Rafiki’s Planet in the past few years, which, sadly cut down on his exposure, but was always a joy to hear. If you never had the chance to listen to this talented man, YouTube has many guest videos.
Additionally, we here at LaughingPlace.com would like to thank this brilliant improvisational musician for coming up with our official theme song on his last day:
During his final day, many longtime fans turned out to thank him for the years of entertainment and Dan let us all know if we want to keep up with his travels to follow him on his official Facebook page.
