Toy Fair 2017: Jakks Pacific – Tsum Tsum, Beauty and the Beast, Star Wars and more!
Jakks Pacific has one of the biggest Disney licenses of the exhibitors at Toy Fair, which makes a trip to their booth extra magical year after year. They currently have contracts for some of Disney's top brands, including the new live action version of Beauty and the Beast, Star Wars, Tsum Tsum, Moana, Elena of Avalor, Palace Pets, Tangled: The Animated Series and the Disney Princess franchise. Here's a peek at the new and upcoming products that were on display, separated by brand.
Disney Tsum Tsum
While the squishy and cuddly plush Tsum Tsums are exclusive to Disney and other licensees, Jakks Pacific produces the line of plastic collectables, which are available in multi-packs and blind-bag options. But first, I want to talk about the new play sets that are coming in the near future because these add a whole new element of fun and creativity to the line. The Tsum Tsum Tsweet Boutique is a fun way to display and play with your collection. It comes with 4 Color Pop figures, where each character features different shades of the same color, and has a working gumball machine for Tsum Tsums and a claw game that interacts with these figures. The Stack 'ems Deluxe Display Sets feature a theme called "Fun at the Fair!" which allows you to display your collection in a Disneyland-esque way.
Another new concept is called Tsum Tsum Story Packs, where all of the items are from a specific film or franchise and allow you to create relevant displays. This awesome Aladdin collection was on display at Toy Fair and my favorite piece is the removable Goofy hat for Genie. Two other sets have been announced as well, based on Lilo & Stitch and Alice in Wonderland. I personally hope this line continues, as it offers easy access to fans of specific films to get a really attractive Tsum Tsum display.
Multi-packs will continue in 2017 as well. Series 5 features "Pastel Parade!" and there will also be a mystery pack with this same theme, a limited release for the Spring season with a rare golden Winnie the Pooh figure. These make great Easter gifts and top of my list is the Peter Pan set that was on display. For Series 6, there will be a line of glittery figures, called "Tsparkle Tsurprise." But kids will be extra excited for Series 7, because it offers opportunities to get even more figures. Inside the present box, you are guaranteed at least 1 mystery figure, but there could be as many as 3 inside!
The 7-figure packs will also continue this year with themed sets. Wave 7 offers Cat Craze and a Woody's Roundup collection and Wave 8 will continue this trend with sets themed to The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Disney Villains.
Last year at Toy Fair, Jakks Pacific debuted their new Marvel Tsum Tsum line and the Mickey Mouse carrying case. This year, the Marvel line expands with its own Spider-Man Stack 'n Display Set and the new Comic Box Display Set, that allows you to display your collection as if they are on the page of a Marvel Comic. The display set won't debut until this Fall, but the Spider-Man case is hitting shelves right now.
Beauty and the Beast

Kids can also have an imaginary tea party with the Enchanted Tea Play Set, featuring Mrs. Potts and Chip.
While Hasbro has the license for Beauty and the Beast 12-inch dolls, Jakks Pacific has the freedom to make larger scale dolls. Ballroom Belle is out now in advance of the film. Belle in her pink dress will be available later this year and Village Belle will be available in the Fall, just in time for Christmas.
Baby Belle is another cute product from Jakks Pacific and comes with a rose-shaped baby rattle. Having some advance knowledge of the film, Belle's early childhood is actually a relevant plot point so kids will likely connect with Baby Belle more than they would for other Disney characters. The figurine set next to Baby Belle allows kids to reenact the ballroom sequence at home and features a few of the enchanted objects.
In addition to toys, Jakks Pacific covers dress-up products based on Disney characters. Belle's Ball Gown is inspired by the new live-action film and is designed for your child's everyday dress-up needs. There is also a Dress Up Accessory Set, which comes with hair combs, clip-on earrings, and Belle's "Tree of Life" pendant necklace.

Moana

A new Moana baby doll will also be released just in time for the next holiday season. Giggling Baby Moana laughs when kids put her in water and comes with a seashell and turtle friend that she can hold. This battery operated toy is sure to make bath time lots of fun for young Moana fans.
Elena of Avalor

Two new Elena of Avalor dolls will debut this fall. The Royal Ball Gown doll (displayed in the box) features her crown and regal dress. But the Action & Adventure Doll (displayed out of the box) offers more opportunities for creativity. Elena's arms are articulated, allowing her to hold her sword or hold the hem of her dress. This battery operated doll also talks and sings, with 20 phrases and 3 songs, including "My Time."
Kids can already dress up as Elena with two dresses from Jakks Pacific. Her Adventure Dress is pictured here, and a light-up Royal Ball Gown is also available along with accessory sets that include shoes and jewelry. Also pictured here is the forthcoming Elena of Avalor Action Adventure Sword. This battery operated toy features motion activated effects, with light-up elements and sounds that react to your playtime. It also includes phrases of dialogue from the hit Disney Channel series. Other products debuting next fall include a ponytail hair set and an Enchanted Jewelry Box.
Whisker Haven Palace Pets

Welcome to Whisker Have, home of the Palace Pets. These characters have been around for a few years now and seem to be steadily growing in popularity, with an animated web series and book collection in addition to the toy line. New this year are blind bag Pop and Stick Mini Surprise Figures. These mystery figures feature a suction cup that helps keep them in place, so kids can bring them wherever they go and securely place them where they won't get lost. There are 24 characters to collect in this series. Also new this spring are Glitzy Glitter Pets, sparkly figures with fun accessories.
In addition the the Glitzy Glitter line, the Palace Pets are getting ready to take a Pawcation. This collection features color-changing effects and each pet comes with a shaped sponge and towel. The sunscreen bottle can be filled with water and features a spray top so kids can easily mist their pets. When water is applied, each pet's fur changes to reveal a swimsuit. But where will your pet's vacation to?
Two new play sets allow kids to take their Palace Pets on a dream Pawcation they'll never forget. The S.S. Pawcation Royal Yacht is already available and comes with the exclusive Otto figure, one of Ariel's friends. Later this year, the Pawcation Royal Camper will allow the Palace Pets to take a deluxe camping trip, which comes with Aurora's pet squirrel, Chipper.
My favorite part of the new Palace Pets collection has to be the Glitz & Style figures, coming this Fall. Each pet comes with two wigs, which can be styled and swapped between pets. I really dig the Tina Turner turquoise look that Sultan is rocking in this display. You nailed it, Sultan!
Frozen

Continue to the next page for Tangled: The Series, Disney Princess, and Star Wars.
Tangled: The Series

Tangled: The Series debuts next month on Disney Channel and I'm pretty excited about it. Jakks Pacific is really focusing on pretend play with this series and all of these products will be available this fall. This is Rapunzel's bow and arrow set, which comes with three arrows with suction cup ends. They all fit inside the included quiver and can be shot with the themed and detailed bow.
Rapunzel's Secret Journal comes with an invisible ink pen, which is only visible under black light. The included crystal provides the right kind of rays to see the ink later. This top-secret journal also features secret compartments to hide small objects and the lock of Rapunzel's hair can be used as a bookmark.
This prototype of Rapunzel's Adventure Bag will offer kids the ability to customize their bag with some included charms. The 7 included charms are Rapunzel's journal, Pascal, frying pan, flower, lanter, feather, and sun. It's big enough to hold the aforementioned journal, but could also be used as a way to keep the following set together.
This Adventure Figurine Set comes with 5 figures, including Rapunzel, her parents, Eugene (aka Flynn Rider), and Maximus. A dress and tiara set will also be available this fall, following the style guide from the new series.
Disney Princess

Jakks Pacific's collection of large Disney Princess dolls will be expanding this fall to include Mulan and Pocahontas for the first time ever. Is there anything cuter than Pocahontas' little moccasins?
In addition to the dolls, dresses for Mulan and Pocahontas will be joining the current collection of dress up items. These outfits mirror Disney's recently updated style guide for the timeless princess characters.
A new interactive Rapunzel doll will also join the collection this fall. Glow N' Style Rapunzel is a battery operated doll whose hair actually glows. She sings "I See the Light" and has 17 phrases. She also comes with a removable tiara, 5 hair clips, a brush and a Pascal hair clip.
I came to New York City on a red eye flight and was pretty red eyed myself the entire weekend, so I just about drolled all over this pretend-play Disney Princess single-serve coffee maker. It's all part of a new modern and contemporary collection of pretend play items. Kids can be just like grown ups, but still live in a Disney fairytale with these rose gold finished toys. The coffee maker will be part of a bigger kitchen set and the empty cases next to it contained a mix of hair and makeup products, including a hairdryer that really blows air. The contents of these two cases had been emptied into...
... the Disney Princess Travel Vanity. The lights around the mirror are LEDs and the case has legs it can stand on when your little one isn't on the go. All of the cosmetic products are just make-believe, so they can put as much fake eyeshadow on as they like without actually becoming a painted lady. Another product in this line is so hysterically cute. Your kids can be just like mommy with this cellphone wristlet, with space for included car keys and chip-activated Visa cards.
Marvel
Marvel Studios has two very exciting films coming out this summer, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. As part of Jakks Pacific's Extreme Performance Vehicles (XPV) series, there will be new products from each of these two films.Rock 'n Roll Groot grooves to the beat, tilting his head and arms and spinning on his base. In the event that he tips over, he is capable of getting back up. And owners can play with him in two different ways. Using the retro cassette tape remote, you can move Groot on your own and play the song "Flashlight." In Listen Mode, Groot can listen to any song you play (for example, the entire Awesome Mix Vol. 2) and can make up his own dance moves. You can also make him say "I am Groot" four different ways.
The Spider-Man Web Striker isn't just a remote controlled car. Using the remote, kids can fire the included web at Spidey's greatest foes. The web can be deployed while breaking or spinning and is able to extend to three feet out. Best of all, you can clean up the web by driving off, which causes it to retract back into the vehicle.
Star Wars

We end our tour of Jakks Pacific's booth with a look at a galaxy far, far away. The recurring theme of Toy Fair when talking to any Star Wars licensee is "We have a lot of stuff that we can't show you." With Lucasfilm's tight lips regarding anything related to The Last Jedi, Jakks was only able to show a representation of their current products, which includes items from The Force Awakens and Rogue One. Their current line of products includes Big-Figs of heroes, villains and droids.
That's a wrap on Jakks Pacific's booth from Toy Fair 2017. To see more Disney related content from this year, be sure to check out all of our Toy Fair coverage.
